Save yourself the hassle I have had…and yes, Apple installed Samsung. A quick search turned up this discussion at Apple. I have also experienced memory faults with Crucial So-DIMMs, two 4GB DDR boards in my MacBook went south, causing mysterious system faults and disk errors, which I finally tracked down with the hardware check software, which reported faults at multiple registers. I recently bought some memory for my Mac Mini and it is not very heat tolerant.
It took me a while to figure out why my Mac was crashing multiple times per day. I sent the 16GB modules back to Crucial and they replaced them about 2 weeks later, free of charge. No crashes at all with the original Apple memory.
I put the new Crucial memory modules back in and it immediately started crashing again. I also tried the crucial recently and it would not work. No joy to even get it to work with multiple attempts. I am also looking for a better solution. Thanks all. I bought 16gb of Crucial ram Jan Open the memory compartment door by pressing the small grey button located just above the AC power port: The memory compartment door will open as the button is pushed in.
Remove the compartment door and set it aside: A diagram on the underside of the compartment door shows the memory cage levers and the orientation of the DIMM. Locate the two levers on the right and left sides of the memory cage. Push the two levers outward to release the memory cage: After the memory cage is released, pull the memory cage levers toward you, allowing access to each DIMM slot.
Remove a DIMM by pulling the module straight up and out. Note the location of the notch on the bottom of the DIMM. Find your model below for specific installation instructions and notch locations: iMac Retina 5K, inch, DIMMs have a notch on the bottom, slightly left of the middle.
You don't need to press the compartment door release button when replacing the compartment door. Place the computer in its upright position. Reconnect the power cord and all other cables to the computer, then start up the computer. After you insert it, press the DIMM up into the slot.
There should be a slight click when you seat the memory correctly: Tuck the tabs above the memory DIMMs, and reinstall the memory access door: Place the computer in its upright position.
