From about bce onward it was believed that every man, not just the deceased kings, became associated with Osiris at death. Osiris was the judge of the dead and the underworld, and the agency that granted all life, including sprouting vegetation and the fertile flooding of the Nile River.
Osiris was the god of the dead, and ruler of the underworld. He was also the father of Horus. As well as being a god of the dead, Osiris was a god of resurrection and fertility. In fact, the ancient Egyptians believed that Osiris gave them the gift of barley, one of their most important crops.
So to the moral of the Myth of Osiris…. Horus, with the wisdom of his mother and a father who holds the truth had the sharp vision of a hawk. It concerns the murder of the god Osiris, a primeval king of Egypt, and its consequences. How was Isis related to the other Egyptian gods and goddesses?
Isis was the daughter of the earth god Geb and the sky goddess Nut and the sister of the deities Osiris, Seth, and Nephthys. She was also wife to Osiris, god of the underworld, and bore him a son, Horus. Seth, the god of disorder, murdered his brother Osiris, the god of order. Seth was furious because his wife, Nephthys, had conceived a child, named Anubis, by Osiris.
The murder happened at a banquet when Seth invited guests to lie down in a coffin he had made for the king. Osiris was responsible for the fertile soil and Set ruled the barren desert. When they were old enough, the sun god Ra married Isis to Osiris. Isis and Osiris were blissful in their love for each other.
Isis is part of the Ennead of Heliopolis, a family of nine deities descended from the creator god, Atum or Ra. She and her siblings—Osiris, Set, and Nephthys—are the last generation of the Ennead, born to Geb, god of the earth, and Nut, goddess of the sky. They worked together night after night. When the body was whole once again, they wrapped it head to toe in strips of linen, creating a mummy. On the night of the full moon, Isis used powerful magic to bring her husband back to life.
In the funerary text known as the Book of the Heavenly Cow, Ra sends Hathor as the Eye of Ra to punish humans for plotting rebellion against his rule. She becomes the lioness goddess Sekhmet and massacres the rebellious humans, but Ra decides to prevent her from killing all humanity.
Osiris, god of the deceased, was the son and oldest child of Geb, the Earth deity and Nut, the sky goddess. His wife and sister was Isis, goddess of motherhood, magic, fertility, death, healing, and rebirth. It was said that Osiris and Isis were deeply in love with each other, even in the womb. In the New Kingdom, Osiris was considered the master of the underground world, the next world — the Afterlife. O siris and Isis had a son named Horus.
Together they represent a holy family: god, goddess and divine child. In the New Kingdom , the main temples throughout Egypt venerated a holy family modelled on the Osiris, Isis and Horus triad. O siris is also equated with the miracle of the Nile and the rich harvest, as the text from the sarcophagus of a high priestess of Amun named Ankhnesneferibra attests:.
