But what if the email is part of an email group Google groups, Yahoo groups, corp server groups, etc? But the email appears to come from one person and has a reply to the group email address. However, with most groups you can usually go somewhere webpage and see who is in the group.
When you reply to this email, it goes to that group email address and everyone on the list will get a copy. This is very different from person sending an email and using BCC, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
Recipients will receive the message, but won't be able to see the addresses listed in the BCC field. When an email is forwarded, the addresses of everyone in the To and CC fields are also forwarded along with the message. Addresses that have been placed in the BCC field are not forwarded. If you have placed a large list of recipients in the To or CC field, all of them will receive the reply.
By placing recipients in the BCC field, you can help protect them against receiving unnecessary replies from anyone using the Reply All feature. Many viruses and spam programs are now able to sift through mail files and address books for email addresses.
Am I supposed to pretend I never received it? I almost always reply to the sender with a note saying never to blind carbon copy me. Why am I writing this post? To save time. Now I can just point to the reasons without starting from scratch each time. It leaves the bcc people out of the follow-up conversation. It sends one perception out there. Those on the BCC line never see it. They are left with a different impression. Play it straight. Send messages TO the appropriate people. CC carbon copy those who need to be aware of an issue.
Posted by: Onamuji. Anyone BCCd on the original message will not be included in the reply. You can't reply-all to include people whose addresses aren't in the original email message. Think about it: How would your email software find those addresses? Posted by: JoeH. That should only happen if the emails are being processed through a listserver or other mean for handling a mailing lists. The blind par of BCC means your copy should have no information about the others getting the email through BCC attached to it.
